Style Icons: From Audrey H to Kim K!
As a designer, I tend to always try and design for a muse. Having someone that has great shape and gives great face not only inspires me, but makes my designing a breeze! With this knowledge I firmly believe that this thinking can totally be applied to everyday life too. People everywhere always look for inspirations, from how to decorate their room to what they want to be when they grow up, hence the posters we all had in our childhood rooms.
Now, how does this relate to style icons you ask? Well, a lot of people ask me how to dress and what to wear and even admit that they are clueless on style and what would look good on them. Since I am in fashion, people always look to me for fashion advice and the first thing I usually do is check out their current style. Now, since I cannot personally visit every single one of your closest, the simplest way to address a style issue is to have a Style Icon.
Find a Style Icon that you admire and has relatively the same frame or body shape as you. Once you have one, figure out what he or she wears that appeals to you. Let’s take my Style Icon, Kim K. for example. I love that Kim Kardashian has lots of curves and she is not afraid to show them! I like her style simply because she wears a lot of black, a color that I (and everyone else) looks great in! Also, she wears a lot of comfortable clothing, made up of leggings and asymmetrical tops and fitted knit dresses with simple silhouettes like our reversible Abby dress. She is very stylish and wears cutting edge trends, the perfect blend of fashion and day to day wear! Now, to apply that to my lifestyle, I simply take the things that I liked and start to buy items that mimic her sense of style: Lots of leggings, high heels/high boot and loose asymmetrical tops, fitted dresses and fitted jackets.
Another example you ask? Okay, I’ll do it just for you! Eloisa’s style icon is Victoria Beckham. E loves Posh Spice’s lean frame because it resembles hers as well. Victoria Beckham blatantly loves high, high heels and slim fitting anything-dresses, jeans and tops! E took the slim route too just like Mrs. Beckham, but incorporated it with her already established wardrobe, instead of chucking her fave jeans though that were not all slim fitting, she kept them and wore fitted tops with her flared jeans, but still incorporated the high heels. When E does dress up to the nines though, she will go all out with slim fitted jeans, high heels and great tops that fit her real well. In this respect Eloisa let her style icon guide her, but never once lost herself and her own tastes.
Try it out for size and see what you come up with! Some of my fave Style Icons, cause a girl just can’t have one is: Beyonce, SJP, Kourtney K and when I feel tamed, Jackie O and the impeccable, Audrey Hepburn! Love Always, Myrda
