| Designer Fall 2011 Inspiration |
Inspiration, Inspiration, Where For Art Thou?
One of the first questions that interviewers ask us is, “Where do you get inspiration from?” And as a designer I am trained to say, “From all forms of life, blah, blah, blah!” My answer is completely true- to a certain degree! Take for instance RbME’s Fall 2011 collection. We had to start up our creative juices for the new season and instead of drawing inspiration from Monet or pine trees as tall as the eye can see in a rustic setting, I popped open my Mac and watched, like I always do, the Couture Collections of the major fashion houses.
Then I peruse the RTW sections of some choice designers and then open a current magazine with the television on in the background, preferably on MTV Hits (not MTV, I like music videos) and only then when I have a plethora of dare I say, “popculture” media in my face, do I even start to siphon in inspirations for silhouettes, colors and details. My fave designer for Fall time around is Alice + Olivia! I was totally enamored and lost myself in the detailing of their “Upper West Side meets Tri Becca Chic” Fall Collection. I was completely inspired by their attention to detail and all the little things that make the collection what it is. Believe it or not, but I also drew inspiration from LMFAO’s new video, “Party Rock.” Not only, was it a catchy tune (the flash mobbing Jesus was a plus!), but it also put me in the most colorful mood with it’s bright almost Valencia Street Mission feel! I loved it! By flipping through magazines, I mindlessly realize what’s trending at the moment and incorporate that into the mix. In the end I realized that it’s fashion and how people take it in and what they do with it is the real inspiration that drives me to create! It’s basically life imitating art, or the other way around, but either way, fashion is the best form of art, only for the simple fact that you live in this art and it is seen by everyone that meets you and looks at you! Now, what wall art can say that? Fashion! It inspires and creates at the same time.
Love always, Myrda |
